The Lodge’s Outstanding Recycling Program Wins Civic Accolades

April 2013

San Diego, California (April 2013) – As a result of its intense, on-going recycling efforts, The Lodge at Torrey Pines was named one of the premiere “2013 Recyclers of the Year” by the City of San Diego’s Environmental Services Department.

The Waste Reduction and Recycling Awards Program is conducted annually by the City of San Diego to highlight local businesses that have adopted the “Green Mantra”—a commitment to recycling waste in as many ways as possible to protect the environment.

Each year, the City’s Environmental Services Department (ESD) selects businesses and organizations located within the City that have implemented or expanded innovative and successful waste reduction, recycling and recycled product purchasing programs.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines will be recognized for its exceptional efforts during a press conference at the San Diego International Airport on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., when the Lodge at Torrey Pine’s outstanding recycling and waste reduction efforts will be recognized by Mayor Bob Filner.

“We are honored to be awarded this prestigious honor by the City of San Diego,” said Edward Pulido, Director of Engineering. “Our landfill diversion rate at The Lodge rate has jumped from less than 15% in 2011 to more than 70% in 2012. The key to this success is awareness. We educate our entire staff on the importance of our recycling program and encourage them to make it a part of their everyday routine.”

The Lodge of Torrey Pines is owned by Evans Hotels. Its sister properties, the Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa and the Bahia Resort Hotel, were recently awarded prestigious designations from the California Green Lodging Program for their outstanding environmental efforts in 2012.
