Del Mar Race Track

Only a few furlongs from the Pacific Ocean, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (DMTC) hosts live racing Wednesday through Sunday from July 17 - September 3, 2014 and again from November 7-30, 2014.

The racetrack opened on July 3, 1937, when Hollywood actor/singer Bing Crosby was there to greet fans at the turnstiles. The Academy Award winner was a member of the partnership that created the famed seaside attraction, whose "Where the Surf Meets the Turf" slogan became famous with his song of the same name. DMTC hosts several Grade 1 stakes races, including the Pacific Classic, Bing Crosby Stakes, Eddie Read Stakes, and Clement L. Hirsch Handicap. For group information call 858-792-4234.





Scripps Aquarium

Birch Aquarium

The Birch Aquarium at Scripps is the public exploration center for the world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the aquarium features more than 60 habitats of fish and invertebrates from the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest to the tropical waters of Mexico and beyond. An oceanographic museum showcases research discoveries by Scripps scientists on climate, earth, and ocean science and includes five dozen interactive elements.




La Jolla Playhouse

La Jolla Playhouse

Under the artistic direction of Christopher Ashley, the La Jolla Playhouse on the campus of University of California - San Diego is a hotbed for musicals and plays that have gone on to Broadway and stages around the world. The Playhouse's world-premiere productions include Billy Crystal's 700 Sundays, Jersey Boys (2006 Best Musical Tony Award), and Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002 Best Musical Tony Award). The Playhouse, which won the 1993 Tony Award for America's Outstanding Regional Theatre, also hosted a pre-Broadway production of Memphis (2010 Best Musical Tony Award).

Museum of Contemporary Art

With spectacular ocean views and distinctive architectural design, the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla is the region’s foremost forum devoted to the exploration and presentation of the art of our time, presenting works across all media created since 1950. MOCA La Jolla is hosting the Treasures of The Tamayo Museum, Mexico City from May 17 – August 31, 2014. The La Jolla location also houses the museum’s X Store, which is filled with a selection of contemporary art books, apparel, and innovative design objects.
