Downtown La Jolla restaurants include Brian Malarkey’s Herringbone, George’s at the Cove, Eddie V’s, and Whisknladle. Del Mar Race Track

Only a few furlongs from the Pacific Ocean, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (DMTC) hosts live racing from mid-July to early September.

 

This year, DMTC is hosting the inaugural Bing Crosby Meet from November 7-30. The Lodge is offering the Winner's Package for the fall season that includes a 2-night stay, 2 Clubhouse terrace table reserved seats for one day at the track, and breakfast for 2 at The Grill for both days. The racetrack opened on July 3, 1937, when Hollywood actor/singer Bing Crosby was there to greet fans at the turnstiles. The Academy Award winner was a member of the partnership that created the famed seaside attraction, whose "Where the Turf Meets the Surf" slogan became famous with his song of the same name. Scripps Aquarium

The Birch Aquarium at Scripps is the public exploration center for the world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the aquarium features more than 60 habitats of fish and invertebrates from the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest to the tropical waters of Mexico and beyond. An oceanographic museum showcases research discoveries by Scripps scientists on climate, earth, and ocean science and includes five dozen interactive elements.




La Jolla Playhouse

La Jolla Playhouse

Under the artistic direction of Christopher Ashley, the La Jolla Playhouse on the campus of University of California - San Diego is a hotbed for musicals and plays that have gone on to Broadway and stages around the world. The Playhouse's world-premiere productions include Jersey Boys (2006 Best Musical Tony Award) and Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002 Best Musical Tony Award). The Playhouse, which won the 1993 Tony Award for America's Outstanding Regional Theatre, also hosted a pre-Broadway production of Memphis (2010 Best Musical Tony Award).



The U.S. Premier of The Hunchback of Notre Dame will run October 26-December 14, 2014, a musical from composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. The Darrell Hammond Project, based on Hammond's acclaimed memoir, will run January 31-March 8, 2015.



MOCA La Jolla

Museum of Contemporary Art

With spectacular ocean views and distinctive architectural design, the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla is the region’s foremost forum devoted to the exploration and presentation of the art of our time, presenting works across all media created since 1950. MOCA La Jolla is hosting "Jack Whitten: Five Decades of Paining" from September 20, 2014 - January 4, 2015. The La Jolla location also houses the museum’s X Store, which is filled with a selection of contemporary art books, apparel, and innovative design objects.

This over-the-top event will provide guests the opportunity to experience an elite James Beard Foundation’s Celebrity Chef Tour Dinner prepared by celebrity chefs, taste superb California wines, enjoy an exclusive tour of Point Loma Farms paired with a locally-sourced lunch, relax to live entertainment and more – all during a luxurious stay at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, renowned as one of San Diego’s most sought-after resorts. Proceeds will benefit the James Beard Foundation.
